In this series of Weldon’s Practical Knitter, you will learn how to knit fishermen’s garments, mittens, gloves, children’s things, jackets, undervests, kneecaps, and more!

The 21 projects range from practical to ornate and include the striking Lady’s Fitwell Jacket, The “Bachelor’s” Tea Cosy, Fisherman’s Sea-Boot Stockings, a fetching Toque for a Little Boy, and the ever-practical Anti-Rheumatic Kneecap.

Weldon’s Practical Knitter, Series 21 is an exact reproduction, with no alterations or corrections made to the original published Weldon’s Practical Needlework from the 1800s.

This electronic pattern book combines your love of history with patterns to challenge your needlework skills. While the instructions included in this eBook might perplex a contemporary knitter accustomed to detailed charts and succinct directions, the patterns are often ingenious, and many of the objects transcend the century-plus span of

years since they were devised.

In an effort to bring needlework to the emerging middle class, Weldon’s, a paper pattern company of the Victorian era, began to publish monthly newsletters devoted to various crafts (beading, knitting, crochet, patchwork, and the like). These newsletters were typically 14 pages and cost 2 pence. Later, they were collected into book form, titled Weldon’s Practical Needlework.

This series was included in Volume 7 and we have reproduced for you here the knitting material from the Twenty- First Series!

This electronic book serves as a curiosity, an inspiration, a resource, and a link to a time beyond our memories. In using and enjoying it, you keep the craft alive.
