Weaving Lace with Madelyn van der Hoogt
Dainty or dazzling, laces are among the most magical of weaves. In this workshop video from Handwoven magazine, Madelyn van der Hoogt teaches everything you need to know to weave lovely, lacey cloth. Along with Madelyn’s 109-minute video workshop, you'll receive two FREE printable booklets on lace weaving, complete with planning exercises, reference materials, and lace projects from some of your favorite weaving teachers and Handwoven contributors.
Warp-faced rep weave is a playground of vibrant color and patterning possibilities. Also referred to as "ripsmatta" (a Swedish term), rep weave is characterized by the alternation of thick and thin picks of weft, or ribs. Great for rugs, runners, bags, and other sturdy fabrics, rep is also wonderful for creating artistic hangings because it allows many blocks of pattern with relatively few shafts. This 173-minute workshop video also includes a handout with warping and weaving tips, lists of materials and suppliers for rep, and one of Rosalie’s rep projects shown on the video.
Weaving Summer and Winter
Traditional, yet contemporary, summer and winter fabric is reversible and fun to weave and design. Named for the light (summer) and dark (winter) sides of the cloth, it has been used for traditional coverlets but is also great for long-wearing household textiles and outerwear fabrics. In this video, Madelyn van der Hoogt teaches everything you need to know to weave and design your own fabrics with summer and winter. Along with Madelyn's video workshop, this DVD gives you a printable booklet with eleven summer and winter projects you can learn from and use.
Weaving Deflected Doubleweave
Deflected doubleweave may be the most versatile weave structure we have today, able to create striking and surprising geometric patterns, three-dimensional fabrics, and even multiple, completely independent but interlaced fabrics. It's easy to design and weave, yet the possibilities are truly endless and it's fun! Along with Madelyn's video workshop, you get a printable booklet on deflected doubleweave weaving, complete with planning exercises, reference materials, and projects you can learn from and use, plus two sets of digital drafts (WIF files) that you can use with weaving software as a starting point for your own designs.
Doubleweave Pick-up is the ultimate technique for creating any image you please on just four shafts. And Master Weaver Jennifer Moore makes the sequence and rhythm of this versatile technique so clear and compelling - you won't be able to stop! You'll learn to manage your shuttles efficiently, to change layers with ease, and to correct random mistakes, along with a host of tips and tricks to make your work go smoothly.
