For spinners and weavers alike! Get in-depth information on how to make yarn, fiber properties and color choices, as well as beautifully photographed samples.

Spin to Weave is not simply a how-to-spin book, but a how-to-spin-exactly-what-you-want book. Weavers who spin their own yarns have the ability to choose fiber type, method of twist insertion, twist amount and/or direction, finishing methods, and grist.

Author Sara Lamb focuses on the process of spinning for specific results, providing detailed instructions, a sampling of projects, variations, and a gallery of pieces by other spinners.

Sara takes the reader to the very source of woven fabric, explaining the entire process from how to choose fibers to how to spin them with finished fabric in mind.

my favorite spinning/weaving book
I was looking for inspiration and guidance in spinning fibers to use in weaving. This book is exactly what I was looking for. Sara Lamb does beautiful work and she writes as though she is sitting beside you, talking about her process. I've owned the book only a short time and already it is worn from the amount of times I've opened it for ideas and reference as I work through my own process. Review by Jamie (Posted on 7/15/2016)
Use Both..book and DVD
If you use both, this book AND the DVD together, you get ALL of Sara's teaching weaving expertise and her spinning expertise. I use these two together constantly. She is teaching you how use spinning and weaving to make your own fabric. Yes...you should understand the basics of weaving. and spinning. She is aiming at fabric making and not just weaving and spinning techniques as separate entities. Look carefully at what her end goal is and not just how to spin or how to weave.
As soon as my floor loom is restored, I will be making my own dress, skirt and shirt fabrics! :-)

More of a nice chat than a tutorial
Reading this book reminded me to attending a guild meeting and coming to sit beside a very experienced and happily sharing member, rather than attending a class.
The book provides a quite a few useful tips, shows many inspiring beautiful examples that are well explained, and breathes enthusiasm and love for both weaving and spinning. It is also very personal, it shows Sara Lamb's style and experiences and doesn't generalize. (There is a section in the end showing other artists' work.)
What the book doesn't provide is a how-to tutorial on spinning and weaving, it is aimed at readers who already know at least the basics of these crafts. It also limits itself to Sara Lamb's favorites, both in choice of fiber and in spinning and weaving style. Obviously, there are a lot more possibilities to explore the book doesn't even touch on. This is not a comprehensive must-have source book.
All in all, I had a good time reading this book and there is enough in there for me, that made it worthwhile buying it at reduced price during the virtual tentsale. However, since it is neither comprehensive nor instructional, I would probably less happy with the book, if I had bought it for the full price.

Beautiful book
Lots of wonderful tips and ideas. Beautiful pictures, it is very enjoyable to look through.
Not a for someone looking to have their hand held or be guided through step-by-step instructions. It is more based around discussions of different spinning effects and how they can affect your weaving for better or worse.
If you are looking for inspiration, not specifically detailed instructions, this is a wonderful book for you.

Could have been more informative
Very self indulgent! lots of photos of authors work, very nice however no patterns other than a simple jacket and reference to Handwoven for instructions nothing regarding the colors dyed as how to achieve them, Disappointing. Review by Kate (Posted on 12/31/2014)
