It's okay for a few tips
This video is great for a few tips, but doesn't cover things like warping mills (which are more efficient than boards in my experience) and when Laura is showing how your body should move as you throw the shuttle, the director cuts to a shot of the shuttle moving through the shed rather than giving us a full view of what Laura does as she's weaving, I would have loved to see her treadling motions! I found some of the information to be overly long, such as using the warping valet (which no one I know owns) the scene is very long and repetitive and gives advice one time, 10 times over. Sleying the reed took a while before the cameraman actually showed the technique Laura was using to sley two dents at the same-ish time. There's an explanation of a twill treadling that didn't seem like useful information, and then she shows how to fill a bobbin on an electric bobbin winder (again, no one I know owns an electric winder). The best info in the video is on threading the heddles, and I learned a valuable technique there. Save your money and simply google this stuff - there wasn't enough information here to command $30. Excellent Video
I bought this video assuming that I'd learn a handful of things to improve my practice, but I was blown away every few minutes at all the tidbits that helped me grow. Laura is a wealth of information on connecting the ergonomics and body motions with balance and consistency in weaving. As I originally learned to weave in person with a friend, I learned huge amounts of information on the "how to," but this video was exactly what I needed now to help me fine tune all the little motions and concepts that I didn't necessarily pick up when first learning the complete set up, warping, weaving, etc. Thank you for such a wonderful educational experience! Well worth it!
I loved this video! Laura has a very no-nonsense style, which translates well to the topic of efficiency. So many things that she teaches are really common sense, but like so many common sense ideas, it's kind of a "why didn't I think of that!" moment. It's not a "learn how to weave" kind of video, it's more of a "now that you know the basics, here's how to make the most of your time" video. Well worth the investment to buy this video. Excellent advice
Laura Fry truly is an efficient weaver. Her techniques have been thought out carefully and presented clearly in this video. I've been weaving for over 40 years and still learned a lot from it.
The video covers all the processes of warping, weaving motions and bobbin winding.
She explains why she does what she does and shows with slowed down motions, just how to make those motions efficient. Then normal speeds are shown to see how it all flows together when warping and weaving normally.
You don't have to keep this video on your computer since you have access to it at any time via the internet.
