Create beautiful surfaces for your quilt projects!

Fiber artist Ginny Eckley will take you on a surface design adventure using screen printing, soy wax resist, dye, fabric manipulation, and more. Join Ginny and learn to create pleasing artwork that combines a mix of imagery with a balance of abstraction. After an overview of the Workshop and a discussion of design, you'll learn how to create precise images using silk screens. Next, get a variety of methods for using soy wax to soften the imagery and add interest to backgrounds. Soy application techniques covered in this Workshop include using a string-wrapped brayer, wooden blocks, and chip brushes.

Plus, you'll discover how to set off your designs by adding a tranquil mix of pleated patterns, reminiscent of shibori. The pleated patterns provide interest and, like the calming waves of the ocean, they offer a comforting sense of harmony. Learning new techniques is wonderful--and combining new techniques to create art is even better! This is one adventure you won't want to miss.

Excellent workshop
I've done some silk screening and soy wax resist so I wasn't sure if I would get a lot out of this workshop but I'm delighted to say that I did. Ginny has some really useful tips that I will certainly use from now on to get a much more polished result and fewer marks that weren't intended and that didn't make the piece more attractive. Interesting combination of techniques
In this video, Ginny teaches how to do the techniques listed in the title and put the unlikely combination together for beautiful work. With a love of nature evident, her pieces are creative and artistically pleasing. If you are a beginner, you will definitely want to get familiar with the materials and practice the individual techniques of the screen printing and soy wax work as well as painting on fabric. The information is here, including design principles, ready for you to go with.

Ginny's work is soft and lovely, reflective of the kind and generous person she is. The techniques taught should be a stimulus that will allow you also to take off in your own direction.
