Spice Up Your Recipe Weaving:
A Weaver's Guide to Project Planning & Design
webinar with Karen Donde

Weaving recipes are great learning tools. But when you’re ready to break free and design on your own, you’ll need to work through decisions about fiber, yarn size, sett, color, pattern and structure to design handwoven textiles that look, feel and function the way you intend.

Weaver Karen Donde designs handwoven textiles for sale, commission and exhibit. In this web seminar she will present her step-by-step Project Planning Workbook (included with this webinar), leading participants through the technical and aesthetic decisions that can make designing handwoven textiles challenging.

And because inspiration can come from any step in the design process, whether it’s a particular yarn, weave structure or technique, she’ll show you how to start in the middle of the workbook, making decisions backward and forward to get to your desired result.

  • How to collect and categorize design ideas
  • How to compare and contrast fiber properties and yarn characteristics
  • How to find color inspiration and test color interactions
  • How to distinguish between pattern and weave structure
  • How to develop your own weaving drafts for any desired project
  • How to estimate yarn needs more accurately
  • Basic computer drafting tools
  • And how to optimize the sampling process of weaving!

This weaving webinar is for all skill levels of weavers. Who should attend this webinar?

  • Novice weavers unsure about designing their own projects
  • Experience weavers overwhelmed by too many design choices
  • Weavers who need help organizing their ideas
  • Weavers who think they're not creative enough to design
  • Weavers with a studio full of yarn they don't know how to use
  • Weavers who love experimenting with weave structures but want to turn them into finished projects
  • Weavers who have only woven from recipes
  • Weavers inspired by published projects who want to use them as design inspiration
  • Weavers who have trouble coming up with ideas

This was "OK" for beginners - there was no content for more advanced weavers. I was expecting inspiration for design, not how to record my weaving notes. Review by Sheila (Posted on 2/21/2014)
Wish I could get a Refund!!!
DISAPPOINTMENT!! My first Webinar and not encouraging. Claimed to be 60-90 minutes and barely made 60 with questions. Content does NOT meet advertised description. Handout was nothing new to anyone who has woven already, yet it seems to be the entire focus. At best this was the equivalent of a general ordinary guild program, not worth the money and not what I expected from Interweave! This was designed for a beginner--description was misleading for those of us advanced enough to really want information worth paying for. Karen is engaging, but there was little material here. I think Interweave should offer all of us a freebie to her second part to see if there is something to be learned when all is said and done! Review by Gail (Posted on 2/17/2014)
Good basic weaving planning for beginners
This was very clear and would be very informative for beginners, but it was hardly 'spicing up' your weaving. Nothing beyond the basics. I have ordered but not yet watched the second part, which I expect to have more inspiration for innovation. Karen Donde is a great weaving teacher, but this was mis-represented in the advertising. Over ambitious agenda
I was drawn to this because of several of the bullet-points in the description but after watching the first ten minutes realized that two hours could not possibly do justice to the many points this webinar promised to cover. For a beginning weaver this will be very helpful in learning good record-keeping and hearing about one teacher's method for feeding her creativity. It will also be helpful for the weaver who needs a nudge toward using more initiative in his/her design choices. I'm afraid I took nothing from it and wished I had listened to my inner voice when I read the list of what she intended to cover. Ambitious. No, over ambitious. Review by Shelby (Posted on 2/4/2014)
It was more for beginners and I expected more. Review by Louise (Posted on 2/1/2014)
Waste of $20.00
honestly, I could not believe that over an hour was wasted on 8 pages of really unneeded paperwork in order to weave a project. Terribly OCD and no actual guide for weaving design! I thought I'd be learning about designing weaving...not a repetitive checklist! I will not be joining any classes again soon. Review by Kate (Posted on 1/26/2014)
