Lapidary Journal Jewelry Artist, January/February 2018
Print & Digital Editions
In this special gemstone issue of Lapidary Journal Jewelry Artist, you can explore the wonders of Mexican fire opal. Mark Oros and Jim Perkins show you how to cut it and also bring you a special facet design which shows off your fire opal in all its glory. You’ll also learn about the exquisite drusy uvarovite garnet, and Lexi Erickson teaches you how to set it in a pendant. In addition, this issue discusses one of the most impressive gemstone collections in the world -- Manuel Marcial de Gomar’s Colombian emeralds. You can learn to set stones in your jewelry designs using a variety of techniques. Stone setting projects include Sam Patania’s Sparkling in 3D earrings, John F. Heusler’s Ocean Voyage pendant, Noël Yovovich’s Flush Setting Demystified ring demo, Sandra Lupo’s Sun Worship Duo necklace, and Arlene Mornick’s Earrings with a Twist. Helen Driggs shows you the latest forming tools. Cathleen McCarthy’s Net Profits column gives you tips to avoid theft at your next craft show. And Deborah Yonick tells you which colors will be hot for spring. Create a stylish bracelet with an intricate chain maille weave in sterling silver and niobium that creates a pattern that resembles snakeskin! This issue includes the Annual Buyers’ Directory, bringing you sources for your jewelry-making materials, tools, and supplies.

*Required tools not included: two pairs of chain nose pliers. Initial bracelet size is 6.75”, additional supplies are included for a longer bracelet if needed.
