For starters, check out the quilt on page 52 entitled "Fauna", designed and stitched by five outstanding quilt artists.  Never in the history of Quilting Arts have we dedicated eight entire pages to a single quilt, but the detail in the fabric painting, imagery, free-motion stitching, and embellishment were certainly deserving of such attention.  For instance, I love how Vickie Hallmark cleverly couched short lengths of copper wire to mimic the prickly spines of a cactus.  Kathy York's life-like seahorse on the cover is a detail of this quilt, and that's not her only contribution to this issue.  Turn to page 60 to view "Synchronized Swimming" in which she painstakingly stitched and couched 300  three-dimensional fabric fish for her quilt.  Yes, you read that correcly, 300 fish!  Turn to page 64 for Jane Dunnewolds article showing how she uses everyday items to create attractive faux textures.

Want to turn heads with your printed images on fabric?  Wen Redmond's quilts and techniques for imagery on fabric (page 70) will have viewers looking twice at your quilts to see how you acheived such an interesting holographic effect.
