Most of these yarns can only be purchased regularly in large cones but with this kit only the exact yardage needed (and a little extra just in case) to complete the scarf has been included so that you don't have to worry about having lots of left over yarn. Plus, by purchasing this kit you will be helping support local U.S. businesses. North Light Fibers' mission is to only use the fiber produced by small, local farms and to create the highest quality handmade yarns.  North Light Fibers is also a family owned mill located on Block Island on the east coast.

The Handwoven January/February 2013 digital issue

This issue's focus is on everything wool!

Discover the assorted qualities and weaving potentials of "varietal" wools such as Jacob, Columbia, and Karakul. Robin Lynde offers the "Weaver's Guide to Wool", a comprehensive look at how to pick the right wool for any of your weaving projects.

Wool projects in this issue include Beverly Jones' alpaca Scarf Designed with the Guy in Mind, Suzie Liles' Imperial Ruana, Yvonne Stahl's Hebridean Cardigan, and Linda William's Versatile Cape in shadow weave.

There's even more projects that use wool blends, making them the perfect woven pieces for any season. Projects include Sarah H. Jackson's elegant Illusions Vest, Kate Lange-McKibben's huck lace Serenity Shawls, and warm rugs by Tom Knisely and Rebecca Fox.

Spacer 10x10 pixels

Dive into the design possibilities of wool with Cei Lamberts almost-felted Fall Colors Craft Satchel, Tien Chiu's show-stopping Celtic Braid Cape woven on either fifteen or seven shafts, and a brand-new swatch collection from Sharon Alderman.

There's more than just wool in this issue. Tien Chiu presents a new view on Complex Weavers and a straightforward explanation of how to turn a draft, and Laura Fry presents fulling in a nutshell.

Block Island Spacer 10x10 pixels

North Light Fibers is a family owned and operated mill located on the beautiful Block Island (twelve miles off the coast of Rhode Island). The island is known for its fantastic beaches and beautiful vistas as well as being a birding center, but before North Light Fibers started business in 2009 it was not an industry center. With the start-up of the mill, North Light Fibers has established this popular tourist destination in the summer as a place that can maintain year-round businesses.

The owners, Sven and Laura Risom, are proving that economic sustainability is possible for this island by creating jobs for the locals as well as supporting other U.S. farms. By purchasing this kit as well as any North Light Fibers yarns or products, you help support local businesses.
