Learn about the details of what is included in the collection:
Flip traditional color meanings upside down by developing your own personal associations for each color in the color wheel! In Acrylic Painting Workshop: Colorful Backgrounds, Nathalie Kalbach explains her method for creating personality-related meanings for each color, and how that might help you understand which colors you're most drawn to. Work alongside Nathalie, and her student Kristy Conlin, to create five art journal background spreads each with a different color and mixed-media technique. After creating these backgrounds Nathalie will give you her tips for mixing and matching different colors with different techniques, and how to create and audition focal points. With these new color meanings and techniques, you'll have journal page starters for every mood!
The most exciting canvases are the ones that entice us to touch them, even if we know we shouldn't! In Acrylic Painting Workshop: Creating Canvas Textures, Nathalie Kalbach teaches you, and student Kristy Conlin, how to make your own temptingly textured canvases. First, you'll learn how to create a heavily layered canvas using found objects such as tissue paper, metal parts, ribbon, thread and more. Then reveal and unify the textures created using gesso and paint. As you work alongside Nathalie, you'll then learn to create more textures using molding paste, heavy body acrylic paint, gesso, stencils and stamps. Finally, you'll experiment with Effect Media including Glass Beads, Black Lava and Natural Sand for the ultimate tactile painting experience!
Matte gel, matte medium, gloss gel, gloss medium, super heavy gel...The list of acrylic mediums goes on and on, and so does the confusion! In Acrylic Painting Workshop: Mediums Demystified, Nathalie Kalbach gives you, and student Kristy Conlin, the ultimate guide for knowing which medium to use in every art situation. Learn the differences between each of the gloss, gel and matte mediums beyond their adhesive powers, and how to use them to manipulate the paints you already have. Explore the wonders of pouring medium, string gel and modeling paste, along with three types of gesso as you learn more than 25 techniques that will blow the doors of the acrylic painting world wide open!
Create velvet-like textures in your art when you learn how to paint and stain on unprimed canvas! In Acrylic Painting Workshop: Raw Canvas Staining, Nathalie Kalbach teaches you, and student Kristy Conlin, how to paint and stain on raw canvas in multiple ways. Create modern, abstract art by pouring acrylic ink and paint mixtures directly onto the canvas for an organic look, or guide the ink and paint using paintbrushes. Once you've mastered those techniques, move on to using stamps, stencils and acrylic paint markers to create more defined images. Finally, learn to use crayon wax and encaustic wax for two styles of batik-type art. As you experiment with staining raw canvas, Nathalie will also give you ample ideas for future raw canvas staining projects.
