I can vividly recall that on my first visit to Paris I exclaimed, “Wow! Look at all the French windows!” But I also remember my impressions of the wonderful lace that covered them – just enough coverage to keep nosy folks like me from prying, but not enough to keep the sunshine out. Since then, my French mother-in-law has bestowed upon me numerous wondrous, knitted and crocheted cotton lace pieces of every shape and size. I proudly hung a set of curtains in our kitchen window in New York. But, alas, we seem to move a lot, and these treasures fit nothing in our current home. This led me to make kitchen curtains that could, without too much trouble, be adapted to new homes. Each piece is knit separately so that the finished size can be changed by replacing one or two elements. Having chosen very simple patterns for the main body and bottom edging, I figured out the edging size, planned the header, knit the panels to fit in between, and knew that I could make length adjustments with the tabs.
