The Grand Canyon is one of the best-known vacation destinations in the Southwest United States. Carved by the fast-moving waters of the Colorado River, the canyon was sliced through layers of striated rock to a mile deep in some locations. Photos of the canyon only hint at the breathtaking beauty with colors that change with the smallest shift in the sunlight during the day. While the canyon is gorgeous any time of the year, my favorite time to visit is late winter when there is still snow on the north sides of the rock faces, and you can enjoy a long sunrise, watching the light creep along each rock formation and shimmer off the snow.
