Hana Jason revisits waist shaping in the gathered pullover. Pleated cable crossings in a carefully placed panel create all the shaping in an otherwise straight body tube. A wide, deep v-neck and casually rolled edges finish a plain sweater with one great focal element.

Gauge: 19 sts and 24 rnds = 4" in St st in the rnd.
Needles: Size 7 (4.5 mm): 29" circular (cir) and set of 4 double-pointed (dpn). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

even better with modifications
I considered carefully and chose this pattern as an attractive, lightweight sweater that could be useful in many seasons when made with Elsebeth Lavold's Silky Wool. Thanks to ravelry.com, I read helpful comments from knitters who had made this pattern and suggested the sleeves were extra long. Thanks to this knitter's notes -
http://www.ravelry.com/projects/allpurledup/gathered-pullover-2
- for suggesting skipping the shaping decreases and modifying the low, wide neck so an under layer isn't needed. Another knitter said she worked the set-in sleeves top-down using directions from Barbara Walker's book which I got at the library and followed with great success. I am very pleased with my garment.
