A subtle play of coppery colors forms the background for this unusual Fair Isle pullover. It's worked in the round to the shoulders, with steeks placed for the armholes and the neck opening. The set-in sleeves are also worked in the round, and the sleeve cap is worked using steeks. Believe it or not, no reinforcement was used along the edges of the cutting line. The wool self-felts as you work it and won't ravel when cut.

Finished Size: 32 ½ (34 ½, 36, 37 ¾, 39 ¾, 41 ¾, 46)" bust circumference. Sweater shown measures 34 ½".
Needles: Size 0 (2 mm): 32" circular (cir). Size 2 (2.75 mm): 29" and 32" cir. Size 2½ (3 mm): 16" and 32" cir, and set of 5 double-pointed (dpn).
Gauge: 31 sts and 33 ½ rnds = 4" in both solid-color St st on middle-size needle and color-work patt from charts on largest needle.

This designer likes pieces that use traditional techniques in modern contexts. Extra-deep armholes and V-neck shaping create a comfortably close fit in this vest.

Finished Size:  28 (31 ½, 34 ¾, 37 ¾, 41 ¾)" bust circumference. Vest shown measures 31 ½". Note: Deep V-neck accomodates a bust size up to 5" larger than finished size.
Needles: Size 4 (3.5 mm): 24" circular (cir). Size 2 (2.75 mm): 16" cir.
Gauge: 28 sts and 32 rnds 4" in Fair Isle patt on larger needle.

Cables, bobbles, colorwork, and crocheted buttons - all in this sporty cardigan. The lower body and sleeves are worked in a bold Aran pattern, then the yoke is worked in a subtle two-color Fair Isle pattern. A simple twisted "braid" punctuates the boundary between the two and is repeated at the neckline. The waist and sleeves are edged with a reverse stockinette-stitch roll. The button and buttonhole bands are worked in one piece with the fronts. Crocheted buttons resemble the bobbles and pull the whole look together.

Finished Size: 36 (40, 43, 47)" (91.5 [101.5, 109, 119.5] cm) bust/chest measurement, buttoned. Sweater shown measures 36" (91.5 cm).
Needles: Body and Sleeves—Size 8 (5 mm). Edging—Size 7 (4.5 mm).
Gauge: 22 sts and 22 rows = 4" (10 cm) in St st colorwork pattern on larger needles; 28 sts and 16 rows = 5" (12.5 cm) wide and 2 ½" (6.5 cm) high in Aran bobble pattern on larger needles.

If you've learned the mechanics of stranded color work, then this sweater makes a great first Fair Isle project. In a worsted-weight yarn, it works up much quicker than a traditional Fair Isle sweater; there are no color runs more than five stitches long; and no steeks are required!

Finished Size: 34 ¼ (40 ½, 46 ½)" bust circumference.
Needles: Size 7 (4.5 mm): 24" and 16" circular needles; Size 6 (4 mm): straight and double-pointed needles ( dpn ).
Gauge: 21 sts and 24 rnds = 4" in Fair Isle patt on larger needle; 19 sts and 28 rnds = 4" in St st with MC on larger needle; 20 sts and 30 rnds = 4" in St st with MC on smaller needles (worked on sleeves).

Knit the primitive inspired motifs of this sweater design. By combining the motifs with brown and beige wool-camel hair yarn and a roomy silhouette this sweater works up as a contemporary up-to-date sweater with a vintage fashion feeling.

Finished Size: 42 (44, 47)" (106.5 [112, 119.5] cm) bust/chest circumference. Sweater shown measures 44" (112 cm).
Needles: Body and Sleeves-Size 4 (3.5 mm). Turtleneck-Size 4 and 6 (3.5 and 4.5 mm): 16" (40-cm) circular (cir).
Gauge: 53 sts and 48 rows = 6" (15 cm) in color pattern.
