Deciphering the Drawdown: Understanding Weaving Drafts
webinar with Robyn Spady

Drafts are the architectural blueprints for weaving; however, they can bewilder us as much as they aid us. Do you ever feel like you need a background in cryptography to decipher weaving drawdowns? Have you ever run out of treadles for a weaving project? Are the terms “turning a draft” and “skeleton tie-ups” a mystery?

By understanding the components of a weaving draft and how it’s developed, a weaver will understand why the pattern creates the design it does, learn how to create distinctive and innovative designs, augment the possibilities of a single threading by changing the tie-up and/or the treadling, and begin to create original drafts.

Robyn Spady was introduced to handweaving as baby with her handwoven baby blanket woven by her great-grandmother. Inspired by her blankie, she learned to weave at a young age and has been weaving for over 40 years. She completed HGA's Certificate of Excellence (COE) in 2004 with the specialized study Loom-controlled Stitched Double Cloth. Robyn is fascinated by the infinite possibilities of crossing threads and loves coming up with new ideas to create fabric and transform it into something new and exciting. She is committed to turning the weaving world on to double-faced fabrics, four-shaft weaves, uncommon and advanced weave structures, and narrow warp weaves.

The problem I reviewed was solved when I downloaded the video. This would be helpful information on the site. No matter now long I waited on the on-demand video (waiting for buffering) I was not able to advance the video and suddenly after 20 or so minutes, the video just started over. Once downloaded it worked just fine.

Very good
I thought the Webinar was very well done. My only complaint was that I did not get any material with the video download. From past webinars, in a follow up email you get handouts and printed materials to download. No materials came with the video download. This has happened twice for me. The downloads do not have patterns and projects that were mentioned and promised in the video. But the webinar was very helpful. Review by Barbara (Posted on 2/11/2015)
An excellent introduction to drawdowns
I don't have the internet speed to participate in real time webinars, so I found this download very useful & informative. I'm glad I can go back and review each section over again, as it goes so quickly. Review by Susan (Posted on 3/5/2014)
