Danish Rosette Towels Kit as featured in Handwoven

Who said your dish towels can’t be stunning? Elizabeth Hill designed these Moroccan colored towels on a Danish draft for a Swedish weaving class she taught. You will love the thread movement in this structure as you weave these towels on an 8-shaft loom. Now available as an exclusive kit, you can create the Danish Rosette Towels for yourself (or as the perfect housewarming gift), as featured in the Handwoven May/June 2015 issue!

Danish Rosette Towels Pattern by Elizabeth Hill
Included in the Handwoven May/June 2015 Issue

These towels came about as part of the development of a class on "moving thread" structures for the Vävstuga Swedish Weaving school. In a lively combination of chocolate, orange, and magenta cottolin, you can weave these stunning towels for yourself!

  • Equipment: 8-shaft loom, 21" weaving width; 12-dent reed; 3 shuttles; 4 bobbins
  • Warp Length: 446 ends 3½ yd long (includes 2 floating selvedges; allows 9" for take-up, 27" for loom waste).
  • Setts: Warp: 22 epi (2-2-2-2-2-1/ dent in a 12-dent reed). Weft: 23 ppi; 26 ppi for plain-weave hems.

22/2 and 16/2 Cottolin Yarn
from Eugene Textiles Center

  • 22/2 Cottolin in Chocolate, 1426 yd.
  • 22/2 Cottolin in Orange, 910 yd.
  • 22/2 Cottolin in Magenta, 564 yd.
  • 16/2 Cottolin in Brun Chocolate, 120 yd.

Cottolin is a nice blend--a little linen for high absorbency but enough cotton for some stretch in the warp. The resulting fabric is so easy to care for, it is often used for towels, placemats, or clothing because it can stand up to repeated washing.
