Superlative! Jam-packed with incredibly useful information
I have grown increasingly fond of Shannon Mullett Bowlsby, partly because he has produced some of the loveliest patterns ever to appear in the magazines, and partly based on this and other videos/classes.

I am an experienced crocheter, and while I have an exftensive pattern collection, I never really make anything exactly like the parttern. Any crocheter with experience can customize a pattern for better fit, or just to make it closer to what you need or want. An ideal video, IMO, gives you the tools to do that better, while not exacting too high a price in terms of time. This video knocks it out of the ballpark on that count.

He talks fast, but not too fast, and it is clear as a bell. I have classes that are 12+ hours long that provide less information. No endless chitchat or forcing you to watch him crochet an entire row of single crochet over and over. He just says, "I'll meet you at the end of the row." This is less than one hour long, but it provided more useful information than any other single video I can think of.

And it is really much more than seven methods, because most of these techniques are easy to expand upon, once you have the basic idea, using other stitches. He shows you both vertical (which is how knitted ribbing is done) and horizontal ribbing methods. If you make socks, gloves, mittens, hats, or sweaters, you will find a suitable rib. The short row technique could easily be used to fabulous effect, and he even shows a method to eliminate the mid-row jog you can get. The gorgeous cape made entirely of rippled ribbing was so spectacular that I ordered the book Designer Crochet immediately.

Oh, and the companion pdf is great as well. It has all of the ribbing methods in both written and diagram form for when you just need to refresh your memory, and it also has foundation crochet instructions. He even demonstrates linked double crochet! (Notes on what those are are at the bottom.)

Linked stitches, foundation stitches, 7 ways of ribbing which can be adapted to produce even more types of ribbing, tips for eliminating gaposis in your short row work (and ideas for other ways of using short rows in your own designs), and a handy pdf 10-page guide make this a goldmine of info packed into less than an hour. Fantastic!

(BTW, while he tells you that the beautiful cape is from Designer Crochet, the lovely green trellis pullover unmentioned but visible in the background is from Crochet Geometry. I have that book, and every pattern in it ranges from petite to 5x.)

Linked stitches: If you hate the appearance of the ch3 at the beginning of a.row of double crochet, you can start with a linked double crochet, which gives a much nicer edge, without that sloppy starting chain.

Foundation stitches: Foundation crochet stitches eliminates the need for starting chains. If you have ever seen, for example, "Chain 132 and join with slip stitch, being careful not to twist," then you know one of the three big reasons for using foundation stitches. (The other two reasons are to eliminate the problem of discovering that the long starting chain is not quite long enough, and to increase the elasticity of the edge.)

Most Excellent!!
The information is well presented and provides you with clear directions. Whether you want to use ribbing to give a little stretch to your cuffs (and hemlines), or if you want a nice finish to your garments, this video download is short, sweet and oh so much to the point. I am very glad that I have it. I look forward to their next offering. Review by Beth (Posted on 9/29/2016)

Good and totally useful
This is a great summary of basic crochet ribbing techniques plus some that the average crocheter might not be aware of. With clear instructions, video and a useful handout, even experienced crocheters will find new information and creative inspiration in this class. Review by Bj (Posted on 7/21/2016)
