Highlights of this kit:
  • This kit contains all of the yarn you’ll need to make this exquisite pair of gloves.
  • These gloves were inspired by the many pairs of rose-patterned gloves (roositud kindad in Estonian) Nancy Bush has seen in the Estonian National Museum in Tartu.
  • The July/August 2017 issue of PieceWork is included, which contains four projects to knit and crochet in addition to the gloves featured on the cover.
Knitted gloves became popular in Estonia in the nineteenth century, and for Nancy Bush the reasons why are clear. “I love making gloves. I love the architecture and the added interest of the inlay for decoration that makes knitting these gloves even more satisfying” (from “Estonia’s Knitted Roositud Gloves and Stockings” in the July/August 2017 issue of PieceWork). Nancy designed these gorgeous gloves to honor her long-time friend Aire Salmre and introduce readers to the brilliant technique of Estonian roosimine, which means, “to decorate with roses.”

With the Colorful Estonian Gloves to Knit Kit you’ll receive 2 full skeins and 5 mini skeins of Elemental Affects North American Shetland Fingering yarn, all that you’ll need to knit these wonderful gloves. You will also receive the July/August 2017 issue of PieceWork, so you can read Nancy’s full article about the history of knitted gloves and stockings in Estonia and her experience at the Estonian National Museum in Tartu. This issue includes the Colorful Estonian Gloves pattern in addition to four other projects to knit and crochet! Order the Colorful Estonian Gloves to Knit Kit today!

All about the yarn
Rating
I love the technique, kind of like a cross between knitting and counted cross stitch. Am working on back of first hand and directions good so far with easy to follow charts. Yarn, however, not my favorite. Twists on itself unmercifully. Scratchy, to the point that finished product may be unwearable! And dark purple color, supplied in mini-skein, used liberally in cuff as well as main design, will need to be substituted with another color in cuff of second glove because there just isn’t enough of it, and I’m pretty frugal in my yarn usage! Will use the dark blue in place of the dark purple in second glove. Also know these gloves are probably most easily worked using magic loop technique due to the way you need to divide stitches when working pattern on hand. But you also still need the DP needles.
