Welcome to your online workshop
Polymer Clay Jewelry:
The Art of Aging Gracefully
with Christi Friesen
We’re excited you’re here!
Do you find natural beauty in imperfect, worn-out, broken, and aging items? If so, you’re in the right place! Christi Friesen will guide you through fascinating techniques for creating the look of antique, repaired, and lovingly used items using polymer clay. You’ll even use vintage items, experiment with shattered and broken forms, and channel nature’s own oxidation process with patinas. With Christi’s help, you’ll embrace the wabi-sabi mentality of finding true beauty in life’s imperfection and transience.
In this workshop, you’ll learn how to
- condition your clay to prepare it for use;
- incorporate vintage and found objects to create an authentic aged look;
- use powders and paints to mimic nature’s aging process;
- find artistic perspective in shattered glass;
- capture the history and beauty of broken objects by glorifying the repairs;
- apply metal coatings and patinas to create organic oxidation;
- bake your clay in a conventional oven or a tabletop oven;
- apply after-effects like glaze;
- add head pins and other findings to turn your pieces into jewelry;
- and more!
