Description
Simple moss stitch has a sculptural, intensely tactile quality when Becca Smith blows it up with unspun wool roving and size 50 needles. A wool reinforcing thread and needlefelted embellishments give the Baa Rug structure and durability.
Finished Size: 26″ wide, 45″ long, and 1½” thick before felting; 20″ wide, 33″ long, and 1″ thick after felting (as shown).
Yarn: Brown Sheep Nature Spun Fingering (100% wool; 310 yd [283 m]/50 g): #601 pepper, 1 ball.
Fiber: Brown Sheep 100% Wool Roving (100% wool): copper, 4 lbs; black, 6 oz.
Yarn Weight: #4 – Medium
Needles: Size 50 (25 mm): 24″ straight needles. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Notions: Needlefelting needle; optional supplies for felting: mild dish soap; white vinegar; thick rubber gloves.
Gauge: 3 sts and 5 rows = 4″ in seed st with roving and yarn held tog.
