Wiley is a great choice for a beginner’s shawl project. A simple lace edging is applied at the end, binding off all the live stitches as you go, so no unmanageably long bind-off is required. Soft stripes in coordinating colors and a five-eighths-circle shape make for a sumptuous shawl that’s perfect to wrap up in when the first chill of fall rolls in.

Finished Size: About 71⁄2 (81⁄2)” (19 [21.5] cm) foot circumference, 91⁄2 (10)” (24 [25.5] cm) foot length from back of heel to toe, 11 (111⁄4)” (28 [28.5] cm) from cuff to base of heel.

Yarn: Fingering weight (#1 Super Fine).

Needles: Size U.S. 1.5 (2.5 mm): 40″ (100 cm) circular (cir) for magic loop method, or set of 4 or 5 double-pointed (dpn).
Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
