Description

These fully lined Fair Isle mittens are worked in the round in an allover two-color tapestry pattern. A smooth merino lining keeps hands extra warm. I-cord cast-ons, charted thumbs, and multiple sizes make this a special pattern.

Finished Size 7½ (8¼ , 9¾ )” inner mitten circumference, 8 (9¼ , 10½ )” outer mitten circumference, and 9½ (10½ , 11)” long. Mittens shown in smallest size.
Yarn Classic Elite Fresco (60% wool, 30% baby alpaca, 10% angora; 164 yd [150 m]/50 g): #5328 rum raisin (MC) and #5303 cinder (CC), 1 skein each. Classic Elite Classic One Fifty (100% merino; 150 yd [137 m]/50 g): #7234 berry, 2 skeins (for inner mitten).
Yarn Weight #1 – Super Fine
Needles Small outer mitten. size 1½ (2.5 mm): set of 4 or 5 double-pointed (dpn). Medium outer mitten. size 2½ (3 mm): set of 4 or 5 dpn. Large outer mitten. size 4 (3.5 mm): set of 4 or 5 dpn. Inner mitten, all sizes. size 4 (3.5 mm): set of 4 or 5 dpn. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Notions Markers (m); waste yarn; tapestry needle.
Gauge Small mitten: 39 sts and 40 rows = 4″ in colorwork patt on smaller needles. Medium mitten: 34 sts and 36 rows = 4″ in colorwork patt on smaller needles. Large mitten: 30 sts and 34 rows = 4″ in colorwork patt on smaller needles. Inner mitten: 26 sts and 34 rows = 4″ in St st on larger needles.
