Norah Gaughan looks for unusual ways to structure her sweaters

Description

Norah Gaughan looks for unusual ways to structure her sweaters. For this not-so-traditional pullover in a soft alpaca wool/blend, she uses a series of organically shaped circles, each worked separately, to form a round yoke. Norah turns to patterns found in nature for many of her design elements; the radiating spokes of her knitted motifs might reflect a flower’s petals or a spider’s web.

Finished Size: 36 (40, 44, 48, 52)” bust circumference. Sweater shown measures 36″.
Yarn: Berroco Ultra Alpaca (50% alpaca, 50% wool; 215 yd [198 m]/100 g): #6251 green olive, 7 (8, 8, 9, 10, 11) skeins.
Yarn weight: #4 – Medium
Gauge: 20 sts and 26 rows = 4″ in St st on larger needles.
Needles: Sizes 6 (4 mm) and 8 (5 mm): straight. Size 8 (5 mm): double-pointed (dpn). Size 6 (4mm): 16″ circular (cir). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Notions: Tapestry needle; removable markers (m).
