Description

Handpainted wool is too precious to part with, but what to do with those tiny leftover balls? This pattern uses one full skein of yarn and only sixty yards each of three additional colors, creating staccato bursts of color. The toe-up design lets you use every yard of your stash of handpainted mini-skeins.

Finished Size: About 9″ (23 cm) foot circumference and 9″ (23 cm) long from back of heel to tip of toe.
Yarn: Fingering weight (Super Fine #1). Shown here: Koigu Painter’s Palette Premium Merino (100% merino wool; 229 yd [209 m]/50 g): P138 (taupe/blue; A), 1 skein; P314 (taupe/pink; B), P602 (fuchsia/orange; C), and P621 (red/copper; D), about 60 yd (55 m) each.
Needles: U.S. size 0 (2 mm): set of 5 double-pointed (dpn) plus one extra. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Notions: Small amount of contrasting waste yarn; tapestry needle.
Gauge: 14 stitches and 22 rounds = 2″ (5 cm) in stockinette stitch worked in the round.
