Designer Tracy St. John was inspired by a photo in a 1930’s fashion magazine of a coat knitted in basketweave stitch. Crochet basketweave fabric is sturdy and versatile, and the light and airy kid mohair yarn allows the coat its elegant length without becoming too bulky or heavy.

Finished Size: 35 ½ (42, 48 ½)” bust circumference, buttoned. Garment shown measures 35 ½” and is modeled with 1 ½” positive ease.
Yarn: Naturally Mist (80% superfine kid mohair, 20% nylon; 181 yd [166 m]/1 oz [25 g];): #617 green, 16 (18, 21) balls. Yarn distributed by Fiber Trends.
Yarn weight: #1 – Super Fine.
Gauge: 19 sts and 12 rows = 4″ in basketweave patt using larger hook; 20 sts and 38 rows = 4″ in garter st.
Hook: Sizes G/6 (4 mm) and D/3 (3.25 mm) (optional). Adjust hook size if necessary to obtain correct gauge.
Needles: Size 6 (4 mm) 40″ circular. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain correct gauge.
