Use simple knit and purl stitches with easy color changes to create this three unique and useful knitted basket patterns.

Description

Six strands of worsted-weight yarn are combined to produce a super-chunky textile that knits up quick and sturdily into three useful vessels. Combining simple knit and purl stitches with easy color changes gives each vessel its own personality and makes these baskets a breeze to knit.

Designer: Erin Black
Difficulty: Easy
Yarn Weight: 4
Finished Size: About 9–11″ (23–28 cm) in diameter and 5–9″ (12.5–23 cm) tall.
Specific Yarn Used:Red Heart Yarns Comfort (100% acrylic; 867 yd [792 m]/16 oz [454 g]): #3197 Light Teal (A), 2 skeins; #3240 Cream (B), 1 skein.
Needles: Size U.S. 17 (12.75 mm): 24″ (60 cm) circular knitting needle and set of double-pointed needles (dpns). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Notions: Stitch marker; yarn needle.
Gauge: 6 stitches and 10 rounds = 4″ (10 cm) in stockinette stitch with 6 strands held together.
Notes:

  • Work with six strands of yarn held together.
  • To avoid bulk when weaving in ends for chunky knits with multiple strands, weave in each strand of yarn separately rather than weaving them in as a single strand.
  • Before beginning, divide each skein of color A into 3 center-pull balls of approximately 287 yards each and use both ends of each ball; divide color B into 6 balls of approximately 144 yards each.
  • Change to double-pointed needles when there are too few stitches to fit around the circular needle.
