Description

The Shayla Shrug is cross-cultural, incorporating Estonian lace in the cuff and a traditional Japanese pattern in the body for a modern look. Both lace patterns are knitted only on the right side, making it suitable for less-experienced lace knitters. Work the cuffs first, then complete the body section second.

Designer: Jennifer Wood

Finished Size: About 501⁄2″ (128.5 cm) long and 181⁄2″ (47 cm) wide with an 11″ (28 cm) circumference at the center of the cuff.

Specific Yarn Used: Fingering weight (#1 Super Fine). Crave Yarn Filigree (75% merino wool, 25% silk; 410 yd [375 m]/31⁄2 oz [100 g]), sullen sunbeams, 2 skeins or 767 yd (701 m) of similar yarn.

Needles: Size U.S. 2 and 4 (2.75 mm and 3.5 mm): 24″ (60 cm) circular (cir). Adjust needle sizes if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions: Stitch holders; tapestry needle.

Gauge: 241⁄2 sts and 31 rows = 4″ (10 cm) of body chart on larger needles, blocked. 32 sts and 34 rows of cuff chart = 4″ (10 cm) on smaller needles, blocked.
