Deep textured knitted skirt.

Description

A simple texture pattern, closely repeated, creates an effect of overlapping scales and a dense, elastic fabric ideal for a knitted skirt. Elastic hidden in the ribbon-pattered waistband fine-tunes the fit.

Finished Size: 32 ½ (35, 37 ½, 40, 42 ½, 45, 47 ½, 50)” hip circumference; 26 (28 ½, 31, 33 ½, 36, 38 ½, 41, 43 ½)” waist circumference. Skirt shown measures 35″ hip circumference.
Yarn: Filatura di Crosa Zara (100% extra-fine merino; 136 ½ yd [125 m]/50 g): #1745 deep olive, 8 (9, 10, 10, 11, 12, 12, 13) balls. Yarn distributed by Tahki Stacy Charles.
Yarn weight: #3 – Light
Gauge: 30 sts and 48 rows/rnds (3 patt reps horizontally and vertically) in hearts of oak patt = 3 ¾” wide and 4 ¾” high on larger needle after blocking; 32 sts and 38 ½ rnds = 4″ in ribbon patt on larger needle after blocking; 28 sts and 38 ½ rnds = 4″ in rev St st on larger needle after blocking. Note: It is necessary to measure the hearts of oak gauge from a blocked swatch because the blocked and unblocked gauges are significantly different.
Needles: Skirt—size 3 (3.25 mm): 20 (24, 24, 29, 29, 29, 29, 32)” circular (cir). Waistband facing—size 2 (3 mm): circular in same length as for skirt. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Notions: Tapestry needle; markers (m); 1 (1, 1, 1, 1 ¼, 1 ¼, 1 ¼, 1 ¼) yd ¾” wide waistband elastic; safety pin; scrap yarn; sharp-pointed sewing needle and thread.
