Many optical artists experimented with shaping stripes to achieve various visual effects. Here, short-row shaping at one edge and the supple drape of silk yarn worked at a loose gauge achieve the same result when the shawl wraps the body. The Rule of Odds Shawl is worked back and forth from the narrow end to the wide end.

Needles: Size 11/2 (2.5 mm): 32″ circular (cir). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions: Tapestry needle.

Gauge: 18 sts and 24 rows = 4″ in St st.
