Create this classy and sophisticated knitted cardigan pattern by working from the bottom up. Pair with jeans, leggings, or even a skirt and this cardigan will become your new favorite.

Difficulty: Intermediate

Finished Size: 171?4 (181?4, 191?2, 213?4, 231?2, 251?2)" back width. Cardigan shown measures 181?4" on model with 34" bust.

Specific Yarn Used: Dale Garn Eco Wool (70% wool, 30% alpaca; 122 yd [112 m]/13?4 oz [50 g]): #1233 grey green, 19 (20, 21, 23, 25, 27) balls. Yarn distributed by Mango Moon.

Yarn Weight: 3

Needles: Size 6 (4 mm): 16" and 32" circular (cir) and set of double-pointed (dpn). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions: Markers (m); removable m; cable needle (cn); waste yarn for provisional CO; stitch holders; tapestry needle; size G/6 (4 mm) crochet hook.

Gauge: 21 sts and 28 rows = 4" in St st; 44-st cable panel = 41?4" wide.

Notes:

  • The lower body of this cardigan is worked from side to side. The upper body is worked back and forth in one piece from the pick-up on the lower body to the underarm, then the upper fronts and back are worked separately. The sleeve cuffs are worked from side to side, then the sleeve is worked in the round to the underarm. The collar is worked back and forth in two pieces.
  • A circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of stitches.
