Description

Cross the lines of modern and traditional by incorporating a classic rose accent onto a red cabochon. Create and solder a three-dimensional rose to make a unique and stunning necklace that will become a classic treasure. You’ll combine basic skills and techniques to create this stunning piece, perfect for intermediate jewelry artists.

Skills: Basic fabrication, soldering, precise sawing, bezel setting

Materials:

  • 1 ¼” x 2 ½” 20-gauge silver sheet
  • 4 ½” silver bezel strip
  • 1 ½” x 1” 26 – gauge silver sheet
  • 1” half round wire
  • Hard, medium, and easy solder
  • Small amount of air-dry clay
  • 1 ½” 18-gauge round silver wire
  • 2” beaded head pin
  • 3 small beads
  • #65 or other small size drill bit
  • Freeform red coral cabochon

Tools:

Layout: Pencil, paper, fine tip
Hand: Bench pin, ruler, dividers, scissors, needle files, saw frame and 3/0 or 4/0 blades, center punch, metal shears, flush cut pliers, round nose pliers, 2 pairs of chain nose pliers, graver, bezel pusher or burnisher
Soldering: Soldering setup, pickle, quench water, torch, flex shaft
Finishing: Assorted sandpaper, pointed diamond bit, silicone polishing barrel with mandrel
Household Tools/Items: 3/8” round object, scrap of wood for a hole to protect the rose when setting the cabochon, small amount of air-dry clay
