Description

This Robyn Chachula purse is an introduction to a great technique—felting. Felting a project after crocheting may feel like a time-consuming extra step, but it actually gives you a fantastic canvas to work on. Felting makes the purse completely useable without having to sew in a lining, and felted fabric creates a great background for embroidery or needle felting (as with the flower attached here). An added bonus is that if you’re at all messy in seaming or stitching, all is hidden when felted.

Finished Size: About 11" wide x 8" tall x 2½" deep (28 x 20.5 x 6.5 cm).
Yarn Weight:
DK weight (# 3 Light).
Hook: Size G/7 (4.5 mm). Adjust hook size if necessary to obtain correct gauge.
Notions: Yarn needle; large magnetic snap; two 1½" (3.8 cm) diameter silver D rings; 44" (112 cm) shoulder strap; 3" (7.5 cm) by 4" (10 cm) needle-felting brush mat; pen-style needle felting tool.
Gauge: 20 sts (measured from point to point of chevron) and 5 rows = 4" (10 cm) in zigzag chevron stitch pattern before felting; 20 sts (measured from point topoint of chevron) and 5 rows = 2¾" (7 cm) in zig zag chevron stitch pattern after felting; flower motif = 5" (12.5 cm) in diameter.
