Maya Medallion Crochet Pattern Download

Description

Long before I began designing shawls, I came across a famous Italian designer’s crocheted shawl with circular motifs along the bottom edge of the otherwise simple mesh triangular shawl. I fell in love with the relationship of simplicity to complexity in the shawl and created my own interpretation of the concept in the Maya shawl. The body of the shawl features half double crochet through the back loops, leaving a lovely, sharp, linear detail where the free front loops parallel the more complex motifs along the border. The motifs are joined as you go, and the triangular section is picked up from the top of the motifs, therefore – no sewing!

Finished Size: 72″ wide x 44″ long (1.8 m x 112 cm).

Yarn: Patons Grace, (100% mercerized cotton; 136 yd [125 m]/1.7 oz [50 g]): #60011 champagne, 7 balls.

Yarn weight: #3 Light

Hook: F/5 (3.75mm) and H/8 (5mm) or sizes needed to obtain gauge.

Notions: Tapestry needle

Gauge: 16 sts and 8 rows = 4″ (10 cm) in hdc-blo with larger hook. Motif = 7″ (19 cm) in diameter with smaller hook.
