Use a tubular cast-on and cables to create this knitted vest pattern. Enjoy the sporty look and the textured welt pattern.

Finished Size: 32 (36, 40, 44, 48, 52)" bust circumference. Top shown measures 36"; modeled with 2" of positive ease.

Specific Yarn Used: Shibui Knits Birch (100% extrafi ne merino; 262 yd [240 m]/13?4 oz [50 g]): #2002 graphite, 5 (6, 7, 7, 8, 9) skeins.

Yarn Weight: 2

Needles: Size 5 (3.75 mm): Two 32” circulars (cir), 16" cir, and set of doublepointed (dpn). Size 6 (4 mm): 32” circular (cir). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions: Markers (m); cable needle (cn); waste yarn; stitch holders; tapestry needle.

Gauge: 20 sts and 32 rnds = 4" in Welt patt on larger needle with 2 strands of yarn held tog (see Notes).

Notes:

  • Work with two strands of yarn held together throughout.
  • The body of this top is worked in the round to the underarm, then the front and back are worked separately back and forth.
  • During shaping, if there are not enough stitches to work a complete six-stitch cable, work these stitches in stockinette stitch instead.
