Made in a cheerful color, the Lemon Meringue Hat & Mittens are all about the cables. The hat and mittens are worked in the round from the bottom up. One cable chart is worked on the hat brim and mitten cuffs, and another is worked around the hat and as a single panel on the mittens.

Finished Size: Hat: 16 1/4 (17 1/4, 18 3/4)” circumference and 7 3/4 (8 3/4, 9 3/4)” tall. Hat shown measures 17 1/4″. Mittens: 6 1/4 (7 1/2, 9 1/4)” hand circumference and 9 (10, 11)” long. Mittens shown measure 7 1/2″.

Specific Yarn Used: Ancient Arts Fibre Crafts 100%Superwash Merino DK (100% superwash Merino wool; 220 yd [200 m]/ 3 1/2 oz [100 g]): Birch Leaves, 1 skein (hat); 2 skeins (mittens); 2 (2, 3) skeins (if making both hat and mittens).

Needles: Hat: Size 6 (4 mm): 16″ circular (cir) and set of double-pointed (dpn). Mittens: Size 2 (2.75 mm): set of double-pointed (dpn). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions: Markers (m); stitch holder (mittens); cable needle (cn); tapestry needle.

Gauge: Hat: 28 sts and 35 rnds = 4″ in body patt. Mittens: 28 sts and 40 rnds = 4″ in St st; 18 sts of Knotty chart = 1 1/2″ wide.
