Make an out-of-this-world gemstone pendant using basic metalsmithing.

Materials Needed to Complete This Project:

  • 41.00mm x 41.00mm x 49.00mm freeform cabochon
  • 10.00mm round cabochon
  • 6.50” of 4.00mm x 0.75mm flat stock for large cabochon bezel wall and bail
  • 2.00” of 3.00mm x 0.75mm flat stock for small bezel wall
  • 6.50” of 3.00mm x 1.00mm flat stock for wraparound
  • 2.00” x 3.00” of 24 gauge flat sheet for bezel back plates

    • Tools Needed to Complete This Project:

  • #7 torch tip; bench pin; burnisher; charcoal block; dividers; easy, medium, hard solder
  • Equaling file; firecoat; fixturing compound (such as Jett Sett or Thermo-Loc)
  • Flat needle file; flat/half-round pliers; goldsmith hammer; half-round needle file
  • Handi Flux (or Batterns Flux); heat gun (optional if using Thermo-Loc)
  • Jewelers saw; locking tweezers, small; magnesium block; micromotor (or flex shaft or Dremel)
  • Permanent marker; pickle; rawhide mallet; ring clamp; round bezel mandrel; sandpaper, 300 grit; setting punch; square needle file; steel pins (can also use paper clips)
  • Triangle needle file; twist drill; universal work holder
