Pulling inspiration from the Japanese stitch dictionaries of Hitomi Shida and the designer’s travels to the Imperial Palace in Kyoto, Japan, the Imperial Gardens Sweater uses relatively simple stitches to create an intricate design full of flowing lines. This sweater is worked in pieces from the bottom up and seamed.

Yarn Weight: 3

Finished Size: 30 (36, 42, 47, 53, 59, 65, 71)” circumference at underarm. Pullover shown measures 36″; modeled with 3″ of positive ease.

Specific Yarn Used: Manos del Uruguay Milo (65% Merino wool, 35% linen; 380 yd [350 m]/ 3 ½ oz [100 g]): #i7099 Zinc, 3 (4, 4, 5, 5, 6, 6, 7) skeins. Yarn distributed by Fairmount Fibers.

Needles: Size 4 (3.5 mm). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions: Markers (m); cable needle (cn); stitch holders; tapestry needle.

Gauge: 27 sts and 35 rows = 4″ in St st; 27 sts and 35 rows = 4″ in Chart B patt.
