Description

The cables of the Floating Spiral Hat are deliberately misaligned and offset, creating an organic, flowing pattern that mimics the bark of a tree. Because an irregular pattern would require a very large chart, the motif is given in text, not charts. Owen Biesel works crown decreases with the cable twists, creating an overall sculptural spiral effect.

Finished Size: 24″ brim circumference.


Yarn: Debbie Bliss Donegal Luxury Tweed (85% wool, 15% angora; 96 yd [88 m]/50 g): #8 green, 2 skeins. Yarn distributed by Knitting Fever.


Yarn Weight: #4 – Medium
Needles: Size 8 (5 mm): 16″ circular (cir) and set of 5 double-pointed (dpn). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.


Notions: Marker (m); cable needle (cn); tapestry needle.


Gauge: 18 sts and 24 rows = 4″ in St st; 14 sts and 28 rows = 4″ in 1 – 1 rib (stretched); 30 sts and 32 rows = 4″ in cable patt.
