You can find design inspiration in many unlikely places-even at a motorcycle shop. These socks are inspired by the flickering flames of a popular motorcycle logo. By interspersing the multicolored shade with the solid in changing numbers of stitches, this pattern skillfully disguises any pooling tendencies while creating an eye-catching and unique design.

Finished Size: About 7V (8V, 9V” (19 [21.5, 24] cm) foot circumference and 9V (11, 13)” (24 [28, 33] cm) long from back of heel to tip of toe.
Yarn: Fingering weight (Super Fine #1). Shown here: Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock (80% superwash wool, 20% nylon; 215 yd [195 m]/50 g): #16ns charcoal (black), 2 skeins, #146 flames (handpaint), 1 skein.
Needles: U.S. size 1 (2.25 mm): set of 4 double-pointed (dpn). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Notions: Marker (m); tapestry needle.
Gauge: 15 sts and 21 rnds = 2″ (5 cm) in St st worked in the rnd.
