Description

Metal inlay is one of the traditional metal techniques from Japan. This heart-shaped pendant features metal dot inlay, but other inlay techniques included line, shape, nunome, and more. This project is great for beginners who want to learn dot inlay.

Skills: Sawing, filing, drilling, annealing silver wire

Materials:

  • Pre-cut heart-shaped copper, 18g
  • Fine silver wire: 20g, 22g and 24ga (3” each)
  • Colored silver leaf

Tools:

Chasing (or other) hammer, drill bits (for 20g wire, #67; 22ga wire, #72; 24ga wire, #76), torch, fluster cutter, steel nail (2.5” long) or push chisel, coarse to fin filers, sandpaper (grit # up to 1200), sizing (adhesive for metal leaf), bamboo tongs, soft brush
