Embellished Silver Ring Project Download

Description

Use silver scraps to create this dynamic ring with a wide band showcasing a heat textured and fused focal piece.

Required Materials:

• 20 gauge sterling silver sheet metal (see “Ring Band Sizing” section to estimate size)
• 20 gauge copper sheet metal for sample
• Scrap pieces of sterling silver sheet metal
• Manila folder or heavy card stock paper
• Hard and easy solder
• Paste flux
• Scotch tape
• Liver of sulfur (optional)

Tools: LAYOUT: Scissors, permanent ink pen. SOLDER STATION: Torch, firebrick, solder pick, tweezers, cross-lock tweezers, quench pot, pickle pot, rinse container, copper tongs. FINISHING: 180, 220, 400, 600 sandpaper; polishing cloth/pad; coarse and medium flat hand files; split (slotted) mandrel; flex shaft or rotary tool. HAND AND FABRICATION: Ring mandrel, jeweler’s saw frame + 3/0 saw blade, forming tool (i.e. dapping punches, swage), rawhide mallet, miter cutting vise (jig) , ring stretcher — Thunderbird #719021 (more versatile than Rathburn), dividers. OPTIONAL: Bench shear, bench vise with holder for round handles (Sears Craftsman 6″, item # 00951856000P, model# 51856)
