Description

Enjoy working up this symbolic design that will build your chasing, repousse, and fabrication skills. Sketch out your own dragon and explore the malleability of meatal!

Required Materials:

  • 20 gauge sterling silver sheet
  • 20 gauge brass wire
  • 10 gauge sterling silver wire for jump rings
  • Sma l l amo u n t o f A r t
  • Metal Clay (or PMC) for signature plaque (item can alternatively be stamped or left unsigned)

Tools:

  • LAYOUT: Laser printer, pure acetone, cotton pads, clothing iron, Sharpie© fine point pen (any pen that will adhere to clean metal is fine)
  • CHASING/REPOUSSÉ: cast iron bowl, rubber pitch bowl pad, pitch (I use Allcraft’s Red German); basic set of chasing & repoussÉ tools (small sized
    helps); chasing hammer – I used a 26 oz and 30 oz one, but some people prefer a lighter one; firm Sculpey (or Play Doh)
  • SOLDERING: torch setup, solder (I used medium), flux, pickle
  • FABRICATION: rubber mallet or other non-marring hammer, sharp dividers, center punch, 1/32″ drill bit, flex shaft, jeweler’s saw, round nose pliers, #2 needle file FINISHING: chemical patina/ darkener (I used Jax), small paintbrush, polishing grade sandpapers: 600, 800, 1000, 1200, muslin buffing wheel, rouge
