Description

This designer lives in the city, where she commutes to work by bike. She needed a convenient carryall for her wallet and keys while riding, so she fashioned this stylish remix of the fanny pack. Worked in two separate pieces, the belt and pouch are sewn together, then the hardware-a zipper and heavy belt-loop rings-are added. The belt is worn low on the hips and can be adapted for any body size.

Finished Size: Belt measures 34 ½” (87.5 cm) long, not counting D-ring loops; zippered purse compartment measures 4??” (11 cm) tall and 8″ (20.5 cm) wide. To fit waist circumferences from 27″ to 31 ½” (68.5 to 80 cm).
Yarn: Tahki Cotton Classic (100% cotton; 108 yd [99 m]/50 g): #3475 coral, 2 skeins. Yarn distributed by Tahki/Stacy Charles.
Yarn weight: #2 – Fine
Gauge: 28 sts and 43 rows = 4″ (10 cm) in garter st. Exact gauge is not critical for this project, but gauge should be deliberately tighter than usual to produce a firm fabric.
Needles: Size 3 (3.25 mm).
Notions: Stitch holder; tapestry needle; 7″ (18 cm) zipper; four ¾” (2-cm) D-rings (available from Clover Bags and Totes Accessories; www.clover-usa.com); sharp-point sewing needle and matching sewing thread.
