Skills: Basic metalsmithing

Materials Needed to Complete this Project:

  • Clear packing tape  
  • Bimetal sheet, 18-gauge, 2″ square or larger 
  • Ferric chloride 
  • Citric acid (optional) 
  • 20-gauge sterling silver, 5mm x 2″ (optional) 
  • 6 3mm lab-grown rubies (optional) 
  • Sterling tubing and snake chain (optional)

Tools Needed to Complete this Project:

  • Electric griddle
  • Skillet, or iron: if you use an iron, it’s nice to have a big vise you can clamp the iron in upside down
  • Sheets of clear acetate such as overhead projector sheets or clear report cover sheets 
  • Steel or agate burnisher or a shiny stainless-steel spoon
  • Wooden brush handle
  • Metalsmithing tools and soldering set-up 
  • Paint marker (optional)
  • Coarse sandpaper such as 240-grit
  • 0000 steel wool
  • Wooden brush handle or other heat-resistant “finger” tool
