Description

You’ll love this if:

  • You’re new to cubic and prismatic right-angle weave, and want a thorough understanding of their form and function
  • You’d like to explore the ways CRAW and PRAW can be used and combined
  • You want to use CRAW and PRAW to create everything: from simple ropes to links and chains to architectural structures

Cubic and prismatic right-angle weave are incredibly flexible stitches, and having a deep understanding of their structures can open up worlds of design possibilities. In this video, CRAW and PRAW master Huib Petersen will teach you the basics, step-by-step, with an emphasis on the architectural nature of these stitches. In the CRAW segment, you’ll learn how to turn corners, connect cubes, and build layers so you can create solid geometric shapes such as pyramids, cubes, and cuboids. You’ll then discover how to lend curvature to your designs by altering CRAW to form a prism in prismatic right-angle weave. Finally, Huib will teach you how to use the suppleness of these two stitches to your design advantage by combining them in braided and knotted designs.

About the Author:

Huib Petersen has been working full time as a bead artist and teacher since 1998. In 1995, Huib moved from Holland to San Francisco, and opened a small arts and crafts workshop and gallery on Nob Hill. Inspired by a chance encounter with 19th century Russian beadwork, he discovered the beauty and challenges of designing with beads. Petersen uses different sizes of beads and a variety of traditional beadwork stitches to create sculpted bugs, butterflies, birds, flowers, and sea creatures. The result is a unique kind of wearable art that offers the intricacy of embroidery and lace, the depth of a theater set and the durability and brilliance of glass.
