Description

Learn to make art that begs to be touched, using a few simple supplies. Texture is a key in Nathalie Kalbach’s artwork, and she especially enjoys interpreting the textures found in nature. In this Art Lesson, Nathalie begins with an inspiration photo of geysers she viewed in Yosemite National Park. Using a variety of mediums and techniques, Nathalie creates a texture plate, starting with a piece cut from a repurposed cardboard box and inexpensive plaster wrap.

Nathalie Kalbach is a self-taught mixed-media artist. She was born in Germany and lived most of her adult life in Hamburg before moving to the United States in 2013. She now lives in Jersey City, New Jersey. Her early love of paint was squelched by an art teacher who told her she had no talent. Nathalie worked as a paralegal for 17 years and might have remained in the wrong profession had she not discovered mixed media. She returned to painting in 2004.

Nathalie teaches workshops worldwide, as well as online classes. She is a docent and faculty member for mixed media at the Pratt Institute, School of Continuing and Professional Studies in New York City. Her artwork is licensed through StencilGirl Products, ArtFoamies, Stampendous!, and RubberMoon Art Stamps. Nathalie is the author of Artful Adventures in Mixed Media: Techniques Inspired by Observation & Experience, published by North Light Books. Nathalie writes about her artful adventures on her blog.
