Mixed-media artist Katie Blaine is back with another unique texture technique, and this time she is working on black. In this June Art Lesson, Katie uses duct tape and texture media to create a base, adds a coating of black gesso, and then enhances the texture with metallic inks, PanPastel^®, acrylic paint, and more. A transfer, in her signature “urban grunge” style, completes the piece. Add this cool technique to your mixed-media repertoire.

Katie Blaine is a mixed-media artist and graphic designer from Southern California. Inspired by the urban architecture and graffiti culture of New York City, her artwork layers images and textures in a style she calls urban grunge. Her art has been featured in galleries in Pomona, Palm Desert, and Laguna Beach, California, and has been published in Creative Quarterly magazine.
