The cabled and cozy Arete Hat is a wonderful wintertime accessory. This hat uses short-row shaping on the earflaps and the back of the head. The edging and braided ties are worked in two colors, adding a wonderful pop of color.

Finished Size: 15 ¾ (18 ½, 21)” circumference, relaxed, and 10 ¾” tall from bottom of earflap. Hat shown measures 18 ½”.

Specific Yarn Used: Knit Picks Swish DK (100% fine superwash Merino wool; 123 yd [112 m]/ 1 ¾ oz [50 g]): #24063 Holly Berry (MC), 2 (3, 3) skeins (see Notes); #24956 Dove Heather (CC), 1 skein.

Needles: Size 4 (3.5 mm): 16″ circular (cir) and set of double-pointed (dpn). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions:
Markers (m); cable needle (cn); stitch holder; 3″ pom-pom; tapestry needle.

Gauge: 24 (27, 30) sts of Braid chart = 2 ¼ (2 5/8, 3)” wide, relaxed; 36 rows = 4″ tall.
