Description

Burnishers are simply polished agate, hematite, or other hard materials mounted in wooden handles. Agate and hematite burnishers are harder and smoother than steel ones, and because they do not rust they hold their polish and produce a smooth lustrous surface. Burnishers are used by rubbing them back and forth over flat metal surfaces to produce a high luster.

Required Materials: Agate or hematite slabs, alcohol, epoxy, mixing pad/stick, polishing compound. See project for complete list.
Tools Needed: Lapidary grinding machine, leather-polishing wheel, pencil, diamond trim saw, artist brush with bristles removed. See project for complete list.
Techniques Used: Tool making
