Selvedges

Selvedges are always a concern to weavers, even though most non-weavers would never notice what we consider to be terrible flaws. You could, of course, hem the edge or cut the selvedges off or do any of a number of treatments as a cover-up, but that shouldn’t be necessary.

Madelyn van der Hoogt, former editor of Handwoven has a fantastic series called “Ask Madelyn” in which she answers weaving questions and pleas for help. She has a deep wealth of knowledge and experience that she shares regularly with all of us who long to weave our very best.

We have many of Madelyn’s answers gathered here, along with other fabulous posts, tips, tricks, and hacks for all of your weaving needs! Be sure to check out the many other techniques and tutorials on our site, and then stop by the Interweave shop to purchase a book, PDF download, video, and much much more!
